With just a few days notice, over 50 HUIT employees responded to a request to run through the functionality included in the HarvardKey 3.0 release in a testing session held on Friday, September 9th. These testers help to refine the actual user experience of activating two-step verification within the HarvardKey self-service application and also to "load test" the new Duo API to ensure large volumes of people could be accommodated setting up two-step verification all at once. Valuable feedback was collected by the Technology Office's UX team, who facilitated the session. The Identity Read more about HUIT rallies to test the HarvardKey 3.0 functionality
For the first time in the history of Harvard College, every member of the incoming class had their login credential and email accounts provisioned before they even arrived on campus! The Class of 2020 claimed their HarvardKeys upon receiving their admissions notices in the spring and used that to access my.harvard. Over the summer, HUIT staff worked with the FAS Registrar's Office to confirm that every freshman had their @college.harvard.edu email account created. The Class of 2020 is going to be the first one to go through their whole student Read more about Welcome Class of 2020!
2015 has been a sweeping year for Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT), particularly in the area of "technology renewal" — an extensive cross-team effort that brought changes including the new my.harvard portal from the Student Information System program, deployment of the Canvas platform by the Teaching and Learning Technologies program, and rollout of the new HarvardKey authentication system from the Identity & Access Management (IAM) program at HUIT.
While the launch of the new HarvardKey authentication system this fall has meant highly visible front-end improvements for users, a significant portion of go-live efforts for HarvardKey involved extensive work aligning data and behind-the-scenes processes in order to ensure a seamless launch of the new system. To meet these needs before this fall's critical dates for launch — work that often involved detailed, individualized data remediation — HUIT staff from the Identity & Access Management (IAM) program and Unified Communications' Exchange and Google services came together in close Read more about Cross-HUIT 'Flash Team' Readies Data for HarvardKey Launch
The Identity & Access Management (IAM) program at Harvard University Information Technology was pleased to present a first-round look at HarvardKey progress to the University's ABCD Committee, a Harvard-wide association promoting communication and collaboration on technology topics. Close on the heels of the first-wave HarvardKey launch — the new unified Harvard login credential made its debut to the Alumni community on Sep. 22, 2015 — IAM's presentation to ABCD on Oct. 2 offered a unique opportunity to recap the progress of one of the Read more about IAM Update at October's ABCD Committee
As IT products and services at Harvard continue to grow and evolve, one key element of any new offering is always at the top of the developer and project leader mindset: Accessibility for all users, regardless of disabilities or different abilities, is critical to ensure that everyone has access to Harvard IT resources without any impediments.
Few things sound better on a hot summer's day than taking time out for some ice cream — and at the end of a work day, sharing a scoop with our colleagues across HUIT was an even more delicious recipe. Nearly 100 attendees stopped by the Identity & Access Management program's open house on Thursday, Aug. 13, for treats, talks, and a taste of what's on the IAM program's agenda, from two-step verification and the rollout of HarvardKey (both coming this fall!) to updates on "person of interest" sponsored accounts, migration of IAM services to the cloud, and more.
For Harvard Alumni, a close-knit relationship with the University doesn't end at matriculation — if anything, it strengthens. And when it comes to the information technology resources that help Alumni maintain solid ties with their alma mater, the Identity & Access Management (IAM) team at Harvard University Information Technology is pleased to make a contribution with the release of MIDAS 2.6 on July 21, 2015.
Take an afternoon break to enjoy some ice cream, fun, and prizes — and meet the HUIT Identity & Access Management team! Join us for the IAM Open House from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, at our home on the fifth and sixth floors of 8 Story Street.
