Harvard Wiki has integrated with Group Services which enables wiki administrators to apply site permissions to groups of people. This replaces the prior use of iSties groups. As of January 10, 2018, IAM Group Services is live in the wiki and iSites groups are no longer in use. This milestone is the result of collaboration efforts between HUIT’s Academic Technology and IAM. In addition to developing the integrated solution, the teams accomplished the following to enable the transition:
- delegated group administrators were trained in various schools and departments on how to create and manage groups within the IAM Group Services platform
- a series of interconnected knowledge articles were written to support the transition and the new Group Services in general. Click here for a starting point to browse the knowledge
- wiki administrators are instructed from within the wiki permission page to visit the IT Help portal for an overview of the changes. Click here for the overview of the changes
This integration provides wiki administrators with access to use the IAM Reference Groups which contain lists of people based on their Harvard affiliation (e.g. students in a specific school or employees in a specific department) as identified in the IAM Identity Registry. These groups are automatically updated daily to ensure that only those with an active role are included, thus reducing the need for wiki administrators to manually maintain large custom groups.
